Outdoor photo session

Outdoors the photos come out different: there's movement, natural light and an animal behaving like itself. The location and the time are chosen for the light, and part of the session is letting them explore. It needs an animal that comes when called or can work on a long lead.

Frequently asked questions

What time of day is it done?

First thing in the morning or late in the afternoon. That's when the light is soft and there are no hard shadows, and it's also cooler, which matters with dark-coated animals.

Do they have to be off-lead?

It helps a lot, but it isn't essential: you can work with a long line and remove it later in editing. What is needed is a safe and legal place to let them loose, if they're going to be.

What happens if it rains?

It's rescheduled. Rain doesn't only ruin the light: a wet, uncomfortable animal doesn't give good photos, and forcing it means next time they want nothing to do with the camera.
