Brushing
Every coat is brushed differently, and doing it wrong hurts. In this session the knots come out with the right tool, the dead hair is removed and the skin gets checked along the way. On long coats, doing it regularly is what stops you ending up having to shave.

Frequently asked questions
How often should they be brushed?
With short hair, once a week is enough. With long hair or a double coat, every two or three days, and daily in full moult. Regularity is what prevents knots, not intensity.
Can knots be worked out or do they have to be cut?
A loose knot comes out; a matted one stuck to the skin gets cut, because pulling hurts and can tear. A good professional tells you which is which before starting.
Does it help reduce hair at home?
Quite a bit. Hair that gets brushed out is hair that doesn't end up on the sofa. In double-coated breeds, regular brushing plus a de-shed during the moult makes a very visible difference.
