How often do you stop?
Every two or three hours to drink, stretch and relieve themselves. On very long journeys, longer stops are planned, and with older animals or puppies, more frequent ones.
Do they travel alone or with other animals?
Shared transfers work out cheaper but involve more stops and unfamiliar company; an individual one is more direct. Neither option is better: it depends on your animal.
Can they be sedated for the trip?
Only if a vet says so, and these days it's usually advised against: sedation affects temperature regulation and balance. What's normal is medication for travel sickness or anxiety, which isn't the same thing.
