Medication visit
A pill at nine in the morning and another at nine at night can't be skipped because you're away. On this visit the professional gives what your vet has prescribed, in the way it was prescribed, and records every dose. No adjusting doses on their own initiative: that's the vet's call.

Can they give an injection?
It depends on the carer's qualifications and on the regulations. Tablets and topical treatments can be given by any carer with instructions; insulin and other injections need specific training and it has to be confirmed when booking.
What if my animal spits the tablet out?
It's noted and you're told. There are ways round it — hidden in food, pill poppers, pastes — and it's worth explaining to whoever comes which one works with yours, because every animal has its own.
Do I need to leave anything in writing?
Yes, and it's non-negotiable: which medicine, what dose, at what time and until which day. Best of all is leaving a copy of the vet's prescription next to the boxes, if you have one.
